Let’s meet the GRG Team
So you want to talk further about reaching your goals, but first, let’s introduce ourselves so you know who your support and biggest cheerleaders are about to be.
Meet Coach Maree
Kia ora, I’m Maree. I’m a Mum, wife, friend, back-of-the-pack runner, coach, personal trainer, pilates instructor and Māori Japanese proud. Living up on the Hibiscus Coast of Auckland, my happy place is with my running shoes on, out in nature and connecting with good people.
Running is now such an important part of my life, but it wasn’t always that way. In 2011, I was in a dark place. My body wasn’t healthy and mentally I wasn’t great either after the loss of three children (two still born babies, Holly and Liam and one at just six weeks old, Katie). With the arrival of my girl Amelia, I knew that things needed to change. Somehow I had to find my health, find myself and make my way out of these dark years.
Enter running. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever pushed myself to do…
-
I taught myself to walk/run lamp post to lamp post and from there with the goal of completing my first 6km event. My love of running and regaining myself only grew from there. Running has taken me to some pretty crazy places, but more about that later.
This process was hard, long and tough for me. My confidence was lacking, I even ran in the dark so that as few people as possible would see me. I felt like an imposter!
But as we all know, consistency brings results. I met some amazing people along the way that inspired me and pushed me out the door for these massive goals. Running has brought me full circle, back to my health and wellbeing and most importantly, back to myself.
As I continued, I met more and more women on a similar journey. Women of all shapes and sizes who all had one thing in common - they liked to run.
It’s through these women, I realised many of them were in need support. They were asking for advice, information on training and coaches. By this time I was working as a personal trainer and pilates instructor.
And I got an idea.
I’d start a Facebook community just for female runners to share ideas and inspire each other. I named it ‘Go Run Girls’.
It started small, and from a couple of hundred, then to 1000 and now has over 18K followers.
It was from here that GRG Coaching became a reality. I wanted to be the coach who could connect with and support women in a raw and realistic way. So after completing my training, it all became a reality.
It’s my absolute daily pleasure to get out of bed and support fellow runners to achieve their goals. It’s a pinch myself moment. Knowing where I’ve come from, and how to help people on their running journey makes me so grateful.
Now you know my story, I’d love to hear yours. Especially if you’re ready to kick into running!

Meet Coach Steff
I started my running journey back in 2013 when Maree decided to take on her first marathon. We trained together, slowly working away at that goal and as a team we succeeded. I wanted to share in her journey and support in any way I could. It’s fair to say that after that experience with her, I was as hooked on running as she was.
I wasn’t always so fit and active, in my younger years drinking took me away from sport, but after meeting Maree and starting a family I gave up drinking to better concentrate on our kids and my work. I’ve dabbled in squash, but it never stuck the same as running.
Having someone like Maree in your corner makes a big difference, and it’s through her that I’ve been inspired to coach others.

After multiple marathon events, where my training got better, my times got faster and friends got in my ears, I decided to take on a 50km ultra marathon. It was love at first finish line. There’s nothing quite like being part of the forest in the middle of the night, jogging away, getting ever closer to the end. I find these distances really exciting, and it’s not just about the achievement, it’s the people and all the food along the way that makes it my happy place.
My run coaching style is enthusiastic, patient and supportive. Wanting to become a coach started from taking part in events, then volunteering with them and realising the massive amount of personal growth that running offers. Not just in fitness but in mental wellbeing and confidence. I’m always wanting to support people with their growth and run coaching was the natural way for me to transfer my enthusiasm and make a difference.
If you’re new to running, I want you to remember, don’t rush it. You don’t need to compare yourself and your stage to any other person. You’re worthy of the time you invest in yourself to do this. Working with the GRG team, you’re never alone. We’ve got you.
